The average audience of one issue (AIR) of the business newspaper "RBC daily" in Moscow in the period from May to October 2011 amounted to 76 thousand people. According to this indicator, RBC daily is the second most popular business newspaper in Moscow. In addition, the newspaper has a wide readership base on the Internet: the monthly Russian audience of the Rbcdaily.ru website reached 3.5 million people at the end of the year, having increased by 59% over the year.
Media holding RBC in August 2017 suspended the release of daily newspaper RBC for three weeks, several interlocutors in the holding told Kommersant. The press service of RBC clarified that the company adheres to "the schedule for the release of the newspaper, which was approved at the end of 2016."
"The pause in August was planned and is related to the low season for both the market and our audience," RBC's representative explained.
Previously, even in times of crisis for the advertising market, there were no summer suspensions of the publication of the RBC newspaper (formerly RBC Daily), says Artem Inyutin, co-founder of RBC, investment director at TMT Investments. During low seasons, newspapers may combine pages or, in the case of a magazine, run double issues, he notes.
In May 2016, RBC editor-in-chief Elizaveta Osetinskaya, RBC website editor-in-chief Roman Badanin, and RBC newspaper editor-in-chief Maxim Solius left the holding. The last working day for all three is May 13, 2016.
Solus later wrote on Facebook that he would not reveal the specific reasons for his departure. But he is deeply convinced that his dismissal is connected with the editorial policy of RBC and with the fact that due to this editorial policy, the owner of the holding, Mikhail Prokhorov, had problems.
“This policy and, in particular, my tenure as editor-in-chief of the RBC newspaper, reduce the chances of a successful outcome of the “dispute of business entities” for Prokhorov’s entire business,” Solius believes.
The change of editors of RBC was the decision of the management of the RBC holding, RBC CEO Nikolai Molibog confirmed to Vedomosti. He declined any other comments on the matter.
“Recently, we have been talking a lot about how to further develop RBC, and in these conversations we could not reach a consensus on some important issues, so we decided to part ways. I want to thank Elizaveta, Roman and Maxim for their work and for their contribution to the development of the company,” RBC said in an official statement on his behalf.
According to a Vedomosti source in RBC, at first it was decided to leave Solus, Osetinskaya and Badanin left out of solidarity with him. "New personnel appointments in the structure of RBC's media projects will be announced later," the company said.
Over the past few months, the pressure on RBC has increased. Sources in the holding told Vedomosti that employees of the presidential and government administrations were trying to get the management of the company and its shareholder Mikhail Prokhorov to change their editorial policy. First of all, officials were not satisfied with RBC's investigations into people close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular, Putin's alleged daughter Ekaterina Tikhonova. Two interlocutors close to RBC say that it was Solus who was the first to be dismissed, since officials are used to reading a paper newspaper, and not the RBC website, where the materials originally appeared.
The newspaper received a warning from Roskomnadzor for publishing a photograph in an article on January 15, 2015, which, according to Roskomnadzor, offended the religious feelings of Muslims. According to the editor-in-chief of the holding, Elizaveta Osetinskaya, the photo showed a stack of Charlie Hebdo magazines, on the cover of which the weeping Prophet Muhammad was depicted, and not the drawing itself. She also noted that the official position of Roskomnadzor on the image of cartoons in the media was published only on January 16.
Roskomnadzor replied that “the image of the infamous Charlie Hebdo cover is a “photo of a stack of newspapers” only for those who have just arrived from another planet and have no idea about the concept of “context”. For everyone else, "this cover contains a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed, any depiction of which is offensive in the Muslim cultural tradition," officials from the agency explained on its Facebook page.

So the results of the Medialogia rating, as a rule, give a combination of "paper plus site". But in general, in my opinion, citation is not such an important thing as rating, clicks, traffic, circulation, audience. Increasing citation will never be my number one goal, only as a derivative of improving quality and increasing the share of unique content. The Izvestia newspaper, for example, can surpass everyone in the degree of sensationalism of its news, but how much information is not confirmed later?
